Turo owner Amanda Vieregge is building an impressive side stream income to help fund her LA modeling dreams. While the stereotypical side hustle to aspiring models and actresses is usually waiting tables in between curtain calls and auditions, Amanda has taken an entirely different approach.

And guess what? Renting out vehicles on Turo is really paying off.

Deciding to rent out her car

Amanda moved to LA just five years ago. Her fitness-modeling career has spanned a decade now, but it hasn’t been enough to pay all of her bills. Besides, she’s not sure what exactly she wants to do with the rest of her life.

When Amanda was preparing for a trip to Spain two summers ago, she “…was looking for a site to rent my car to make some extra cash while I was away. Turo was the first carshare site I found and I have never looked back since.”

Owning and managing a fleet of vehicles

Once Amanda got a taste for the kind of profit you can earn using Turo, she decided to invest some of her savings in order to purchase more cars. Her fleet of vehicles is up to six now, and she has plans to expand. Amanda likes to rent out luxury, mostly white vehicles (she likes the clean and simple look of white vehicles), and currently owns three Mercedes, one BMW, one Jeep, and one Smart Car.

Parking has not been an issue, even though Amanda only has two parking spaces where she lives. She explains that she rents out the vehicles on such a consistent basis that she has never had to park any of her cars on the street.

Which is a good thing, because she is working towards making this a full-time income stream. Amanda loves that with Turo, “you are your own boss. I am only 24 and still not set on what I want to do yet, but one thing I do know is I definitely want to be my own boss.”

Tips for earning more with your rentals

In the last two years that Amanda has been with Turo, she’s figured out how to maximize her earnings. Her first tip — and something that she is known for if you read through her reviews — is to be ultra-responsive to renters. “Have your phone on you. Customers love very responsive owners.”

On top of being responsive, she goes above and beyond by offering first-time renters instructions for how to go through the Turo rental process in the description of several of her vehicles. Another extra offering is a car seat in case someone needs to borrow one. In the future, she plans on offering free airport pickup and drop-off for weekly rentals when she moves closer to her nearest airport.

Not only that, but she has an outstanding customer service record, evidenced by her 87 5-star reviews from renters. This helps others feel confident when renting from her (and these reviews were gained by the tips she gave above). One final tip is that summer seems to be the best season for rentals. She’s experienced 100% rental rates at during the summer months, which has led to times when she never sees her actual vehicles because they are moving from one renter to the next.
