Montreal: a metropolis mélange of old and new

Montreal is an undeniably vibrant city. In 2017, we put our finger on the pulse of this bustling cultural mecca to deliver our first Montreal Market Guide. Since then, trips booked in The City of Saints have more than doubled and the number of vehicle listings are not far behind, making Montreal Turo’s 9th largest global market by number of trips.

MONTREAL HAS A TASTE FOR MERCEDES-BENZ AND GPS

Montrealers love luxury, and they’re more than happy to share. Mercedes-Benz takes the top spot for “most searched make,” followed by BMW, Audi, Porsche, and Tesla. When it comes to vehicle features, our data shows that GPS and all-wheel drive are of the utmost importance for Montrealers searching for a car to book.

GUESTS FILTER FOR PROXIMITY, INSTANT BOOK, AND DELIVERY

If you want a guest’s quest for wheels to end in booking your car, keep the following in mind: 31 percent of searches use the map to find cars in close proximity to popular destinations, 14 percent filter for instant booking, and 11 percent use the custom delivery filter. Luxury lures guests in, but convenience seals the deal.

COMFORT AND UTILITY WIN OUT

Guests in Montreal are steering their way towards more SUVs and minivans compared to 2017, opting for comfort and practicality. Subcompacts and compacts still reign supreme, while midsize and fullsize car bookings remain stable.

It’s no surprise then that the top booked and highest-earning car in Montreal is the Dodge Grand Caravan, famous for its utility and spaciousness. Cruising close behind are a motorcade of compacts and subcompacts such as the Honda Civic, Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra, and Toyota Corolla.

BUSINESS BOOMS IN LATE SUMMER AND DURING THE HOLIDAYS

The average trip to Montreal is three days, as guests often tack on an extra vacation day to their weekend. In fact, the most popular booking days in Montreal are Thursdays and Mondays.

Like the rest of Canada, car sharing in Montreal is a seasonal business. The summer heat makes guests thirsty for adventure and bookings skyrocket, while fall’s changing colours signal a spike in holiday trips. You can benefit from these market booms by listing your car on Turo today.
