Mile-high city, mile-high bookings

Our Denver community party is going down tonight, so we thought we’d take a deep dive into what makes this mile-high market tick.

Denver has seen booming tourism over the last few years, and this trend is definitely reflected on Turo — Denver is one of the most vibrant and fastest growing markets in the Turo marketplace. Our data analytics team pulled these handy metrics to help our savvy Denver community understand their market and optimize their Turo businesses.

SUVs are the most frequently searched vehicle type

Unsurprisingly, Denver’s outdoorsiness and proximity to the mountains makes SUVs very in demand. Nationwide, regular cars (including compact, midsize, and fullsize sedans and sports cars) are the most searched vehicle type.

SUVs are also the most frequently booked vehicle type

By a whopping 61%, SUVs are the hot ticket item in Denver. Nationwide, SUVs represent around about a quarter of bookings, showing that SUVs are pretty in demand wherever you are.

“Backroads ready” is the most frequently searched category

Similarly, our “Backroads ready” category includes cars that are ready to tackle the great outdoors, including SUVs, pickup trucks, and other vehicles with all wheel drive. Nationwide, the most-searched category is “Upscale”, including higher end makes and models from the last 10 model years.

“Backroads ready” is the most booked category

“Backroads ready” is also the most booked category and accounts for 23% of bookings in the Denver metro area. Across the US, the “Latest models” category, including all makes from the last few model years, is the most booked category segment.

Jeeps are the most frequently searched make

Visitors to Denver and locals alike love the pioneering attitude that comes with driving a Jeep, like Zach’s Jeep Wrangler. On a national level, BMW is (by a narrow margin) the most sought-after make.

Jeeps are the most frequently booked make

Jeeps FTW. These hearty automobiles are popular for both their rugged good looks and the rugged performance qualifications on snowy mountain roads. Nationally, Toyota is the most frequently booked make on Turo, probably for its reliability and ubiquity in American life.

The average trip length is 4.23 days.

The perfect amount of time for a perfect long weekend trip into the Rockies.

Peak seasons are winter and summer.

Unsurprisingly, skiers flock to the gateway to the Rockies from mid December to mid March. Once the snows melt and windchills rise, from early June through late September, hikers, bikers, swimmers, floaters, concert goers, and other recreational enthusiasts descend on Denver, making it a truly year-round destination.
