Cinco de Mayo may have already come and gone, but have no fear: spring is here and there are plenty more good times to be had. In fact, May is positively brimming with beer festivals that will have you eagerly making plans for the rest of the month. No matter where you are in the country, there’s a fest for you.

Seattle Beer Week

Seattle, WA, May 12–22

Seattle is a city with a legacy of expertise in craft brewing, and as such, spends a full week celebrating the liquid gold. This year’s official beer is Reuben’s Brews Daily Pale, created especially for the event to be deliciously hoppy and with a lower ABV, so you can taste more variety. Besides the many other beers on tap for the week, Reuben’s Brews will feature their signature Daily Pale in a different cask, infusion or Randall (an awesome contraption for infusing beer), every day of the festival.

UnTapped Music Festival

Kennewick, KY, May 13–14

This music festival has a heavy focus on beer. Spend your weekend sampling from Kentucky’s finest micro-breweries while listening to the area’s best in blues, country, and rock. This year marks the 20th annual reprisal of the event, and as it grows, the festival continues to expand from its roots in blues fest to include more music genres. Get ready to groove to headliners, including the Delgado Brothers, Parmalee, and Kate Turner.

Beer Under Glass

Chicago, IL, May 19

The Garfield Park Conservatory is a singularly stunning venue in which to sample Chicago’s best craft brews. Roam the eight indoor display houses and outdoor gardens while munching on small plates of comfort-style food from local eateries. This event kicks off the Chicago Craft Beer Week, which is expecting over 300 venues participating — it’s safe to say you won’t want to miss it.

Beer Bacon Music

Frederick, MD, May 21

Under the Maryland sky, three of life’s greatest pleasures come together for your festival delight. Sample over 99 varieties of beer while chatting with the brewers about their techniques, snack on the two tons (!) of bacon at the buffet in all different varieties, all while enjoying the live music in a perfect laidback festival atmosphere. Diehard beer lover? Make sure to nab the Early Bird VIP ticket so you can enter the festival in time to guarantee a sample of the limited quantity rare beers tapped at 11 a.m.

California Festival of Beers

San Luis Obispo, CA, May 27th–28

Affectionately nicknamed just “BeerFest,” this festival is the ideal kickoff to Memorial Day Weekend. Sip beers under the California sun while soaking in the ambiance of the Madonna Inn Meadows, an expansive field surrounded by rolling green hills. You’ll find beers from all across the state, so you’ll have plenty of options for libations as you enjoy the lawn games and live entertainment.

Virginia is equally enamored with words and globetrotting. Whenever possible, she likes to combine the two through travel writing to help other wanderers discover and fall in love with the world.
